About Sophia Academy

In 2000, a group of religious orders, later known as the Sisters Collaborative, had a vision to open a school that would celebrate girls through education and environment. In four short years, the school has grown from shared space in the Algonquin Building on Broad Street, to its own spacious quarters in the former St. Edward’s Elementary School, 979 Branch Avenue, Providence, RI.

A nondenominational, private, non-profit gender-specific middle school for girls, grades 5-8, from low-income families in Providence, Rhode Island has a current enrollment of 60 students with a student-teacher ratio of 15:1.

The school is supported through private donations, corporate and foundation grants, and special events.

Our students’ families pay a portion of the $12,500 tuition, based on a sliding scale that is determined at the point of admission.
